Franco Mostert: Off the Green Field
If I have to describe Franco in one word, just one... it would be GROWTH. I very carefully sketched a detailed depiction of him in my mind as a unique seedling, who has been hailed down many times and who has, in spite of that, transformed into a steadfast, vigorous and evergreen tree. Without any deliberation he sheds vigilant shadows upon those he holds dear or those who are in need. A tree can only grow this strong, when its roots are firm and deep. I've known him ever since he was only 14 years old and I am blessed to be the one who walks this journey with him. Now, I know he is my husband but I will try my utmost best not to be bias :) Let's voyage along the roots that make Franco who he is.
The first root that emerges is, passion.
It's his notably passionate charisma that I find most appealing. In my eyes this is, in fact, what distinguishes him from anyone else. This deep, undeniable passion draws me to him in ways that is too substantial for my small pondering mind to grasp. With this same passion he managed to succeed and flourish in life. Not only physically but emotionally and mentally as well. If he's passionate about something, he sets his mind, heart and soul to achieve his goal - whether it's towards his rugby career or getting me to fall in love with him.
The second root that emerges is, giver.
Besides the fact that Franco is a world class rugby player, he is down to earth with a heart of gold! Saying that he is an exceptional father and husband is, needless to say, an understatement. He gives himself and his time with extreme devotion and love to those who he holds dear.
Franco and I are two complete opposites but what remains our most important common ground is, our values. I've seen him in all of his states of mind, his immediate reactions to situations and the way that he deals with good and bad situations. I know his heart and that is why I can confidently say that even when I have an eternity to search the world, I will never find anyone like him. It's not just about the way that he loves me and our children but also how he loves and enjoys life with his roots firm and steadfast in Christ. He is the type of guy I would want my daughters to marry one day.
4. Being Himself
Having known Franco for years, I can truthfully say that he is completely different but yet still the exact same down to earth person I met back then. Yes, a lot has changed - we've matured and we've grown but Franco never forgets where he comes from or how hard he had to work to get to where he is today. He is proud of who he is, where he comes from and the man who he has become. For he has never been one who could care less about what anyone else thinks of him or says about him. Instead criticism has always made him stronger and wiser. His favorite motto in life is, 'You live and you learn,' and he does exactly that! What I find most astonishing is that he doesn't find it hard to admit when he's wrong. When he makes a mistake, he owns up to it, faces it and sets it right. I know this may sound like a mere cliché but try to really apply this in your life, then you realize it's much easier said than done. Words could never bring nor keep him down. If I had to pick only one thing then this, single handedly, is the one reason why I would want to be just like him.
Franco himself is a living testimony of the quote 'you can do anything you set your mind to'. He's never been afraid to be himself, which is one of the many reasons why he is my hero. His character clearly shows that he is self-assured and happy. I'm sure that he'll continue to grow whilst remaining true to who he is. I am immensely proud of him.
